          Dubai

Dubai’s spectacular skyline of innovative, awe-inspiring and iconic buildings belies the fact that only 30 years ago the city was just a small seaport accepting trade from select parts of the globe. Although Dubai’s economy has been built on the oil industry, since it was discovered in the emirate in the late 60’s, the main income is now from tourism, real estate and financial services and has become a global business centre.

Dubai has elevated itself to sit alongside some of the most cosmopolitan capital cities in the world with a spectacular choice of cultural attractions including museums and galleries. Dubai is host to several prestigious sporting events, including the Dubai World Cup - horse racing’s biggest prize, sailing regattas and the Dubai Rugby Sevens, along with a plethora of activities on offer such as dune driving, dune boarding, tennis, water sports and even skiing.

Dubai is also home to seven huge shopping malls housing an overwhelming choice of shopping with the most popular UK and global retail brands on offer, including Harvey Nichols, Cartier, Debenhams, Bvlgari, Boots and Marks & Spencer. All this, along with some of the best hotels in the world, combines with the backdrop of the beach, the desert, mountains and the city making for one of the most exhilarating holiday destinations imaginable.

The city’s many claims to fame include the world’s tallest building; The Burj Khalifa Tower; the record-setting choreographed fountain system; The Dubai Fountain; the world’s seventh largest shopping mall; the Dubai Mall; and even the top six tallest hotels in the world, including the iconic Burj al Arab at number four!

Dubai enjoys year round sunshine and a hot, arid climate. Summers in Dubai are extremely hot, windy and dry, with an average high around 40 °C (104 °F) and overnight lows around 30 °C (86 °F). Winters are cool and short with an average high of 23 °C (73 °F) and overnight lows of 14 °C (57 °F).
