          Thailand

Thailand’s cuisine and culture has seen a huge boost in popularity in recent years and the very best place to experience the combination of flavours, history and architecture is by travelling to and around the country itself. Renowned for its luxury hotels, supreme levels of service, beautiful beaches and its huge array of spectacular places to visit, Thailand gives its visitors some wonderful memories.

Escape the crowds on one of the beautiful islands off the coast or enjoy the hustle and bustle of the cities of Bangkok or Chiang Mai, Thailand’s second largest and home to several excellent cookery schools – where better to brush up on your Thai cooking?  If your main mission on holiday is to soak up the atmosphere, the culture and the history, then a visit to the frenetic city of Bangkok is ideal, where the pace of the city only slows down in the tranquillity of the temples (or Wats as they’re known) and a ride in a 3-wheeled local taxi (TukTuk) is definitely an experience!

A combination of city and beach is a must as some of Thailand’s beaches can compete with the very best beaches in the world – with palm-fringed golden sands in areas such as Phuket and the islands of Krabi and Koh Samui offer a fabulous getaway from the pace of the city and a chance to relax. There are also sleepy fishing villages and beautiful national parks to be explored, full of amazing tropical flora and fauna.

Thai hospitality is second to none and the warm welcome you receive from the people of this beautiful country remains a powerful reason to return time and time again.

On the whole, the best time to visit Thailand is during the cool and dry season, between November and early April. Although the climate can be variable during the remainder of the year (Apr – Oct), these are still good months to visit.

Particular parts of the country have differing climates – in the South for example, the West coast has generally better weather during the UK’s winter months and diving & snorkelling is especially good at this time. On the East coast the weather is good for most of the year with the highest rainfall in November and the lowest during January and February.

Thailand is a fabulous destination to spend a honeymoon - with opportunities to visit the cultural highlights of Bangkok, Chiang Mai, the natural delights of the Golden Triangle or just spend time relaxing together in some of the most stunning beach destinations.

Thailand is served by a good choice of both scheduled and charter airlines with flights into Bangkok and Phuket. Airlines such as the national carrier, Thai Airways, and British Airways have twice daily and daily direct flights respectively from London to Bangkok, taking just over 11 hours. Other airlines, such as Emirates and Etihad offer multiple daily flights from regional UK airports via Dubai and Abu Dhabi to both Bangkok and Phuket. Charter options are also available but can be restricted on flying dates and times of year (for example Thomson Airways fly to Phuket only from London between Nov – Apr).
